Kiln-formed
glass, commonly referred as slumped glass,
appeals particularly to one's sense of
touch. Studio G3 has wide variety of
textures - from aggressive wave-like
patterns to subtle linen-like designs.
Slumped glass is achieved by heating the glass in a kiln to a temperature high enough to become soft and cause it to slump into or over a mold.
The finished
panel assumes the shape of the mold and
the entire glass' appearance becomes
obscure. The artists meticulously craft
the patterns and designs on the mold while
visualizing the glass' finished
appearance. Ceramic fiber overlays are
also used to create unique designs by
placing them randomly on the mold. |
